About
Ruth Carr
Licensed since 2008, Ruth Carr has now trained over 650 winners and more than 2000 placed horses. Known for her hands-on and highly individualised approach, Ruth takes time to understand each horse’s personality and needs. Horses in her care enjoy daily turnout, whatever the weather, either individually or in small and large groups, helping them stay relaxed, confident and happy in their work.
Ruth grew up immersed in horses and quickly developed a passion for racing. As an amateur jockey, she rode 28 Flat winners, 8 over hurdles and around 20 Point-to-Point winners, and represented Great Britain in international competitions in America and across Europe.
Before taking out her licence, Ruth spent fifteen years assisting her grandfather, David Chapman, whose innovative approach produced many sprinters that people still remember today. His string included household names such as Soba, Quito, Chaplins Club, Glencroft and Soaked. The education Ruth gained during those years strongly shaped her own philosophy: varied routines, close attention to each horse as an individual, and creating an environment where horses thrive both mentally and physically.
Ruth remains involved in every aspect of the yard—riding out, developing young horses, planning campaigns, sourcing new stock, working closely with owners and managing the day-to-day running of the operation. Training racehorses is more than a profession for Ruth; it’s a way of life, and the results speak for themselves.
